I am Sophia Lezizidis, a Division I student-athlete with a major in Criminology and current Captain of Grambling State University Women’s Soccer. Entering my junior season, I was named the 2025 SWAC Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year, a recognition built on back-to-back impactful seasons where I earned Grambling Soccer MVP, All-Conference SWAC Tournament Team honours (three years in a row), and Conference Tournament MVP. Over my NCAA career to date, I have contributed 22 goals and 17 assists, with 9 game-winners, while helping Grambling secure the 2023 Regular Season Championship and TWO Conference Berths to the NCAA Tournament
From the moment I arrived at Grambling as a freshman in 2023, I was recognized as a difference-maker — earning NCAA Freshman Player of the Week honors and becoming a trusted starter. My development has been defined not only by on-field production but also by leadership, culminating in my role as 2025 Team Captain.
Beyond the NCAA, I have consistently produced at the League1 Ontario level. In my 2025 debut season with Railway City FC, I scored 14 goals in 11 matches, immediately establishing myself as one of the league’s top offensive threats. Previously, I represented BVB Waterloo and Whitecaps London, where I recorded a 19-goal season and earned multiple Team of the Week and Team of the Month honors. Earlier in my career, I was invited to both the National Development Centre and Ontario Provincial Screening, and I posted a standout 24-goal U17 season with Whitecaps London.
At 5’6”, I am a versatile attacking player who can impact games as a striker, winger, or attacking midfielder. My strengths include pace, technical skill, finishing under pressure, and vision in the final third. I am equally committed to the team dynamic — pressing, linking play, and creating opportunities for teammates.
Outside of competition, I am passionate about giving back to the game and the communities that have supported me. I actively coach a youth team in Louisiana during the NCAA season and return each summer to coach and mentor young players in Canada, assisting with development programs and helping around the club that shaped my own journey. Soccer has given me so much, and I take pride in sharing my knowledge, leadership, and love for the game with the next generation of players.
Coaches describe me as a player who combines talent with work ethic and leadership. As Coach Justin Wagar of Grambling State University said: “Sophia is an outstanding player. She’s our captain in her junior year, an offensive threat, and a great team player who works hard everywhere on the pitch.”
Looking ahead, I am focused on continuing my upward trajectory as both a leader and offensive contributor. My goal is to leverage my NCAA and League1 Ontario experience to compete at the next level and bring value to programs and organizations that demand performance, professionalism, and resilience.
